West Ham and Plaistow New Deal for Communities
(NDC)
New Deal for
Communities (NDC) is a government programme designed to tackle
social exclusion, community safety, unemployment and low
educational attainment in areas of severe need throughout the
country.
The NDC programme is supported by Department for Communities and
Local Government's (DCLG) Neighbourhood Renewal Unit (NRU) and
administered on a regional basis by Government Offices. NDC takes
forward the Government's commitment to tackle social exclusion in
the context of the strategy "A New Commitment to Neighbourhood
Renewal: National Strategy Action Plan".
The West Ham and Plaitow NDC is a comprehensive area based
regeneration programme, which begain in 2000 and finishes in 2010.
A total grant of £54.6 million is available for this period. The
programme is designed to improve the quality of life and provide
more opportunities for residents in the West Ham and Plaistow
area.
The programme aims to establish a strong and enterprising community
at the heart of an area with a strong identity, civic pride and
with the magnetism to attract and retain aspiring residents.
The area will have a good quality housing, good community
facilities, an attractive environment, excellent schools and
services and the ability to access economic opportunities as they
arise as a result of the community and statutory authorities,
joining forces to challenge, exercise choice and promote
change. |
