Facts and Figures about Newham

More About NIMS

The Newham Neighbourhood Information Management System (NIMS) is an online central data repository that enables local strategic partners (LSP) to share data.

The system is also an information tool for those simply wishing to know about socio-economic patterns and trends in Newham. NIMS partners include the London Borough of Newham, Metropolitan Police, London Fire Brigade, Newham University Hospital NHS Trust, Newham Primary Care Trust, amongst others.

NIMS enables the public to access partnership data more easily from one central repository. The amount of time spent searching through data can now be better utilised analysing it. Various users such as partnership agencies, voluntary groups, students, and businesses have been using NIMS in their research reports and general interest.

Newham NIMS is a flagship for cross-cutting data sharing, and we are collaborating with the London Borough of Waltham Forest, and the London Borough of Enfield to address common issues.

These neighbouring boroughs modelled their statistics portal after NIMS. Hence, the objectives of this group are to exchange best practice methodology and discuss system development strategies.

NIMS encompasses several modules:
  • e-Gov Interactive Statistics Portal allows single and multiple topic data analysis enabling a better understanding of inter-relationships of issues and monitoring of trends. It has the ability to store public and confidential data from various agencies to allow easy analysis via mapping, tabling and charts.
  • Location Finder, also known as the MapPortal, enables users to find their closest service facilities such as leisure centres, schools, or places of worship.
  • Research Reports is a downloading area containing the latest research news as well as valuable reference materials such as:

- Focus on Newham
- Household Panel Survey
- Indices of Deprivation 2004 Report
