Green Waste & Composting

FREE Green Waste Collection

Newham provides a FREE Green Waste Collection for residents. So don't bin your green waste, put it into normal refuse sacks or bundles to be picked up by a dedicated Green Waste Collection vehicle.

There is no charge for collection. We guarantee it will go into a bay for green waste only at Jenkins Lane Reuse and Recycling Centre.

What can be collected?

  • Grass cuttings
  • Leaves
  • Prunings
  • Trimmings
  • Small branches
  • Flowers
  • Bark
  • Twigs
  • Weeds
  • Wood shavings
  • Straw
  • Or just about any "green" garden waste

How is it collected?

Please leave your green waste in normal black refuse sacks or bundles outside your door or at the boundary of your property. Please do not use orange recycling bags as these are for recycling only.

We cannot collect soil, bags containing other items such as flower pots, piles of green waste not in bags or large branches.

It is important that we keep hazardous waste such as poisons, paints and chemicals away from landfill where it can be particularly harmful. The Hazardous Waste Collection and Disposal Service of the Corporation of London will collect waste for disposal free of charge.

Requesting a collection

Complete the Green Waste Form online, or call 020 8430 2000 to book a green waste collection.

Please ensure the green waste is ready for collection before you make the request; you will need to confirm the number of bags to be collected.

Collections are completed within seven calendar days and are made Monday to Saturday, but you must book by 12 noon Friday to guarantee collection by the following week.

Health & Safety

Remember that a refuse operative must be able to lift bags and bundles into the back of a refuse vehicle, so don't overfill them!
