- What are the benefits of being
active?
- Regular physical activity can benefit your heart, weight,
muscle and mind. Physical activity can help protect you from
developing health problems, or assist you to manage and control
existing medical conditions.
- I don't like sport or gyms, is there
anything for me?
- Even something simple like walking to the shops instead of
driving or taking the bus can help raise your general activity
levels and as an added bonus this would save you money too.

- How to do I get referred for the
Exercise Referral Scheme?
- Your GP or practice nurse needs to recommend you for the
scheme.
- Are there any walking groups in
Newham?
- Yes, we host Newham Striders, every Saturday 9-10am. Attending
doesn't cost anything and offers walks in and around Wanstead Park,
approximately six miles long. Meet at: St Mary's Church, St Mary's
Ave, Wanstead E11 Tel: 020 8271 1345 for further information.
- How do I join Newham Fit Club?
- For more information on Fit Club events or membership, please

- Who can get access to cardiac
rehabilitation programme?
- The rehabilitation program is run for those who have completed
Phase 3 program in the hospital following a heart attack or heart
surgery. You have to be referred by Newham University Hospital. If
you would like to join an exercise programme please see the Newham
Fit Club open to all.
- Who can get access to the COPD (Chronic
Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) programme?
- To access the programme, you need to be a member of the
exercise and education programme at Newham University Hospital and
they will refer you. If you would like to join an exercise
programme please see information on the Newham Fit Club which is
open to all.
