Reporting Accidents

You need to notify the appropriate authority in the event of certain accidents and dangerous occurrences.

Accidents must be reported immediately if they are 'major injuries', specific dangerous occurrences or if a non-employee has to go to hospital. Other accidents where a worker is unable to do their normal job for 3 or more days should be reported within 10 days.

These incidents are fully explained in the Health and Safety Executive's reporting of injuries, diseases and dangerous occurrences regulations leaflet (PDF, 142k).

Accidents should be reported to either the Incident Contact Centre in Wales or to us at Alice Billings House.

Other employers must notify the ICC in Wales or report accidents directly to the Health & Safety Executive (HSE).
