How Newham is Governed

Introduction

The council is made up of the Mayor and 60 locally elected councillors who make decisions on how to provide local services on behalf of local people.
The Mayor takes decisions as advised by the Cabinet, Mayoral Advisors and Officers. The Mayor also has a representative role and can speak on behalf of the council in a wide range of settings.

The Civic Ambassador is a councillor chosen by the council as Newham's civic representative.
