How to Become a Councillor

    • The Nomination Process

      Please note nominations are now closed. Nominations were accepted between 24 March and 3 April (noon) 2006. The following information is for the record.

    • Party Candidates

      If you are thinking of standing as a candidate for a particular political party, then you should first get in touch with that party's local organisation.

    • Independent Candidates

      If you plan to stand for the council as an independent, the Electoral Registration Officer can advise you about what you'll need to do to get your name on the ballot.

    • Councillors' Expenses

      As part of the legislation that sets out the arrangements for the payment of allowances, details of amounts paid to each member of the council and each co-opted member of a committee must be published within the local authority's area.
