The service for the visually impaired

The service for the visually impaired is based within the learning support service at the New Tunmarsh Centre.
The service for the visually impaired:
  • Works directly with children and young people who are visually impaired in schools and nurseries
  • Provides on-going support and advice to schools and families regarding suitable educational approaches for children who are visually impaired
  • Places a strong emphasis on promoting the independence of children and young people who are visually impaired
  • Organises a resource library and adaptation service which is open to schools, parents and other staff within the children and young people's service.

Schools normally contact the team directly about children who are of school age, but any parent / carer of a child who is visually impaired is welcome to contact the team directly if they have any queries on 020 8430 4801.

Parents / carers are also welcome to visit the New Tunmarsh Centre, Tumarsh Lane E13 9NB at the weekly information and advice shop which is open every Wednesday from 4.00pm - 5.30pm during term time.
