What is best for the children and young people in our
borough? Why do some achieve their potential, while others are
unable to close the gap in educational attainment, economic and
emotional wellbeing, health and social inclusion?
The Big Debate began in February 2008.
From it will emerge a road map which will define how we shape
children and young people's services in Newham for the next 10
years and beyond, and respond to the Department for Children,
Schools and Families Children's Plan.
We have embarked on a process which will give us an agreed
understanding of why some young people are not achieving as well
and they could, recognising and building on our successes, but also
providing an honest self examination of where we still need to
improve.
This will inform transformational change in the provision of
services for our children and young people in order to provide the
very best opportunities for them to reach their potential.
Our starting points are Every Child Matters and The Children's
Plan. Excellence for All is a discussion that will lead to the
development of a model for Newham, one that you will shape and
deliver.
