Apply for a Permit

Here you can find information on how to apply for an operating permit for an industrial activity.
Not every industrial activity needs an operating permit. To find out if an installation needs a permit, you need to see if the activity is listed in the Pollution Prevention and Control Regulations 2000 (Schedule 1).

Please note:
There have been numerous amendments to the regulations, so the regulations need to be read in conjunction with these amendments. Public Protection can advise you about the most up to date version of Schedule 1.

Operating a prescribed activity without a permit could lead to a £20,000 fine, so if you believe an activity is being carried out or you wish to carry out an activity that may fall in the PPC Regulations, you should contact Public Protection to discuss the application process.

There is an application fee and annual subsistence fee for regulated processes that is set by Defra.
