Cooling Towers

If you have a cooling tower or evaporative condenser on your premises it must be registered with us by law.
These structures are used in industry to cool hot water (by partial evaporation) before reusing it as a coolant.

Without proper treatment, they can be the habitat for the development and dispersion of bacteria, especially legionella pneumophila.

All premises where cooling towers and evaporative condensers are situated must register with the local authority under The Notification of Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condensers Regulations 1992.

Registration will provide the information to enable any outbreak to be properly investigated. There is no charge for registration.

You can download a cooling tower and/or evaporative condenser registration form or view a list of sites operating cooling towers and evaporative condensers.
