Parental
involvement
The Parental Involvement courses aim to
enable parents to become involved in their children's and their own
learning to help raise achievement and to further enhance the
enjoyment of learning.
We run various courses for parents, as well as offering
support and training to schools and governing bodies on increasing
parental engagement in children's learning. Courses generally run
for two hours each week for six weeks and include courses such
as:
- Educating and Entertaining 0-4 Year
Olds: This gives parents a better understanding of
physical, social and emotional development of children during the
Earl Years and offers ideas on how parents can help children to
develop
- Get Creative: A practical course for parents,
which offers information on developing children's language skills
in the early years through play
- Early Years Foundation Stage: This is for
parents and carers of children aged 3, 4 and 5 who would like to
know what children learn at school and how parents could help them
with their school work
- Helping Your Child with Reading and Writing:
The course offers advice to parents on developing their children's
reading and writing skills and helping their children to achieve
their potential in literacy. The course also focuses on the
Literacy Hour in schools
- Helping Your Child with Maths: This offers
advice on how parents can enhance their children's mathematical
skills and informs them of the maths curriculum
- Helping Your Child to do Better at SATs: The
course explores how children learn and offers ideas on how to help
children perform well in their SATs. This course also enables
parents to have a look at past ASTs papers and resources to support
children's learning
- Managing Children: This aims to raise
awareness of the social, emotional, developmental and educational
needs of children with emphasis on increasing parental confidence
and self-esteem
- Computer Courses: These offer parents training
on Basic Computing, Keyboarding, e-mailing and Surfing the
net
- Helping Your Child's Education: This course
offers information on developing children's reading, writing and
maths skills. It also gives advice on helping children achieve the
best they can in their tests and helping children organise their
time better
- Health and Nutrition - Healthy Body Healthy
Mind: This offers parents information on a healthy diet,
good eating habits, the impact of an unhealthy diet and
complementary remedies for a healthy body and mind
- Transition Course: This course offers parents
support and information on the issues related to children moving
from primary to secondary school
- Understanding Teenagers: This focuses on
understanding teenagers' needs and the pressures that they face in
society
- English Language Courses: These are designed
to help parents learn basic English Language skills
