The four East
London Waste Authority boroughs of Newham,
Barking and Dagenham,
Havering and
Redbridge
are preparing a Joint Waste DPD for East London. The purpose of the
Joint Waste DPD is to enable the adequate provision of waste
management facilities (including disposal) in appropriate locations
for municipal, commercial and industrial, construction and
demolition, and hazardous wastes.
Preferred Options
The Joint Waste DPD Preferred Options have been
developed following consultation on the `Building the Evidence Base
and Identifying Issues and Options' during Spring 2007. The
Preferred Options document sets out the policy
direction to govern waste development to 2020.
Formal consultation on the Preferred Options documents ran from
7th April 2008 to 19th May 2008.
The Preferred Options Report was accompanied by a standard response
form. All comments received within this consultation period will
inform the preparation of the Joint Waste DPD Submission
Version.
Sustainability Appraisal
We are carrying out a Sustainability Appraisal on all LDF
documents, including the Joint Waste DPD. This will allow us to
assess the possible impact that our policies might have on the
environment and help the preparation of plans that will promote
sustainable forms of development.
The Sustainability Appraisal for the Joint Waste DPD can be

Building the Evidence Base and Identifying Issues &
Options -
The Issues and Options provides the evidence base
for the development of the Joint Waste DPD for East London and
includes potential options for how we might deal with the issues
identified. Public consultation on the Issues and Options ran from
16th April 2007 to 4th
June 2007. The following PDF documents were part
of this consultation:
The
Issues and Options Report on Consultation
(PDF, 71.9mb - this document will take a while to download)
summarises the representation received during the public
consultation. Full copies of responses received are also
included.
What happens next?
The comments received during consultation on the Preferred
Options, together with further investigations and discussions with
various stakeholders, will inform the development of the Joint
Waste DPD Submission Version. Following submission to the Secretary
of State another six week consultation will take place. The
soundness of the document will then be tested at an Independent
Examination after which the Inspector will publish a binding
report..
