Three Mills Island

Three Mills Island is a 19th century treasure to be found near Bromley-By-Bow undergound station.
It is home to the oldest tidal mill in Britain - a beautiful example of the architecture of the time. More recently the 3 Mills Film Studio has given new purpose to the location.

During the 16th century corn and gunpowder were milled here as well as grain for gin distilling.

The House Mill on the site is a grade I listed building and was built in 1776. It is reputed to be among the most powerful tide mills ever built. It was last used in 1941.
