Parking and Traffic Enforcement

Dropped Footways

Parking on the road in front of a dropped footway is prohibited irrespective of whether yellow lines are present or in force.
There are two types of dropped footway:

  • Pedestrian; to provide an easier crossing point for pedestrians to cross a road or street, especially parents with prams and wheelchairs and the less mobile such as the elderly and the disabled
  • Vehicle crossover; to provide access to an off-street parking space such as a drive or garage

A parking space cannot be provided in front of a dropped footway as this would obstruct the pedestrian crossing point or the legal right of access to the off-street parking space. Any motorist parking in front of or adjacent to a dropped footway may be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice.
