Planning Applications

Our Development Control service controls what is built in Newham and the use of land and buildings in the borough through planning permissions and enforcement. Development Control's main function is to process planning applications through to formal determination either at Planning Committee or through delegated powers.
  • The biggest change to the planning system in years

Online applications have increased following the succesful implementation of 1APP, the new national standard planning application form.

  • About the Service

Most building work or changes of use require planning permission. Wider off-site benefits for the community can often be achieved through 'planning gain' agreements.

  • Making a Planning Application

You must get planning permission for most types of building work and to change the use of a building.

  • Planning Applications - Additional Guidance

Careful consideration is given to the merits of every planning application that we receive and there are a number of things taken into account before a decision is reached.

  • Pre Application Charging

Pre Application Charging Under the Local Government Act 2003 local authorities can now charge for discretionary services such as pre-application advice. The charging system for pre-application advice will commence operation from the 1 January 2008.

  • View Planning and Building Control Applications Online

PublicAccess is an online service that allows you to view planning applications being considered by London Borough of Newham and some planning history.

  • Development Control Service Teams

Development Control's main function is to process planning applications through to formal determination either at Planning Committee or through delegated powers. The DC Service is split into two sections - the Major Applications Team and the All Borough Team.
