What we
do
There are lots of ways in which we can
assist you and your child in getting the help and advice you
need.

Pupil Services Section can assist families with the
following:
-
Finding you local schools

This is known as an 'In Year' admission.
- Transferring a child from one Newham school to another Newham
school - This is known as an 'In Year' transfer.
- A child's transition from primary to secondary school - This is
known as primary to secondary transfer or Year 6 to Year 7
transfer.
- Finding a child a reception class place/starting school in
Newham - This is known as a reception class application
- What to do if you are not happy with the school place that a
child has been offered - This is known as an
admission appeal.
- What to do if your child is excluded (suspended or expelled)
from school.
- What to do if you are low income and my child need's free
travel to school - This only applies if they cannot use the Mayor
for London's Free Bus Pass scheme.
Our job is to:
- Provide information about how to obtain a nursery school or
class place for under 5's in Newham. Local nursery, infant and
primary schools manage admissions to nursery aged children (3-4
year olds)
- Help you find and offer places in the primary
schools in the borough
- Help you find and offer places in the secondary
schools in the borough
- Offer free bus passes for those children who are
eligible and are not covered by the Mayor of London's free bus pass
scheme
- Offer the right of appeal to school admissions. We
will send out forms for parents to
complete.
We are informed of any exclusion and are involved in
allocating alternative educational provision. There are also
exclusion appeals, which we can help you with.
First point of contact is through the Council's Contact Centre on
020 8430 2000. They will be able to send out
application forms for all the services mentioned above. If they
cannot deal with your enquiry they will pass you onto someone in
Pupil Services Section who can. |
