Radiation

Radiation is a general term used to describe the emission or transfer of energy, as waves or particles, through the air or other substances. Radiation can be grouped into two types, ionising radiation and non-ionising radiation. Newham is a member of the London Wide Radiation Monitoring Group (LWRMG).
  • Ionising Radiation

Ionising radiation causes the production of electrically charged particles, called ions, in the materials it strikes.

  • Non-ionising Radiation

This radiation can be divided into optical radiation and electromagnetic fields.
