Recycling Information for Schools

Shanks East London, which provides recycling services in Newham, is a joint venture between Shanks Waste Services Limited and the East London Waste Authority (ELWA). Shanks East London has a 25 year contract with ELWA, and aims to recycle 33 per cent of household rubbish by 2016, pushing landfill use down from more than 90 per cent of rubbish right now to just 35 per cent in future.
Along with ELWA, Shanks East London covers the four London boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, Havering, Newham and Redbridge and has the job of disposing of more than 550,000 tonnes of waste each year.

Shanks also provides educational information for schools. They have a dedicated team that visits schools to give recycling education to children of all learning abilities. They currently have an educational centre for classes to visit and are developing more throughout East London. Go to their Education Centre to arrange a visit or to find out more interesting facts about recycling.
