Textile Banks - Recycle your old clothes and shoes for a good cause

Ever wondered what to do with that pair of shoes that's gone out of fashion but is too good to throw away? Or an old pair of jeans that's a bit tight around the waist? Or maybe a coat that you received as a present that's just not your style? Well the answer's simple, because there are now several textile recycling banks in Newham.

The newest textile recycling bank at Tesco, Gallions Reach is used to raise valuable funds for a local charity. All shoes and clothes collected are sorted, graded and sent to other parts of the world where they are reused. Many go to the most deprived countries in the developing world and the more fashionable items are snapped up by bargain hunters in these countries.

For every tonne of textile collected through the textile bank at Tesco Supermarket, Gallions Reach, Beckton, E6 7FD, local textile recycler L M Barry will donate £100 to Richard House Children's Hospice in Beckton.

So get rummaging through your wardrobe for those items that you no longer use and help to raise much needed funds for a good local cause. Don't worry too much about the condition as all items will be sorted and graded. The only thing we ask is that all shoes are paired.
