Regeneration Projects

London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Newham is a host borough for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The successful bid means that the Games will be held in London for the first time since 1948, and will speed up our regeneration plans and provide a lasting legacy in terms of jobs and sporting and cultural facilities.

The development will provide world class sport
facilities for athletics, swimming, hockey, tennis, cycling and a range of indoor sports as well as radically improving the image of East London.

The London
Games will see an 80,000-seat athletics stadium and other sports venues in a 500-acre landscaped park - the largest urban park built in Europe for 150 years.

The Olympic Village will provide affordable, accessible, environmentally-friendly housing, ensuring that natural resources are preserved for future generations.
