Registering a Birth

Where to Register a Birth

Where to go...
If your baby was born in Newham including Newham General Hospital you must come to the Register Office:

Newham Registration Service
Passmore Edwards Building
207 Plashet Grove
East Ham
London
E6 1BT

Tel: 020 8430 3616 or 020 8430 3617

For further information please call or email us - see Get in Touch for email address and opening times.

If your baby was born somewhere else
If your baby was born somewhere other than Newham, the birth will have to be registered in the district where it happened (so if baby was born at Whipps Cross Hospital it will be registered in Waltham Forest, Homerton in Hackney, King George V in Redbridge, Royal London in Tower Hamlets, and so on). If you telephone us we can supply you with the telephone number of the appropriate Register Office.

If it is impossible for you to go to the appropriate register office it is sometimes possible for us to forward the details for you. You would have to make an appointment to do this - please telephone before visiting our offices.

If the baby was born in Scotland or Northern Ireland or any oversees country the birth will have to be registered in those countries - again we can provide advice.
