Registering a Death

Must All Deaths Be Registered

Our advice...
You are legally required to do so.

Registration of a death must be done first before any funeral can take place. So it is important that this process is not delayed.

The Register Office must be notified of a death within five days unless the coronor is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. You do not need to make an appointment as we operate a drop-in service, Monday to Friday.

If it is important, for religious reasons, to make rapid arrangements for a funeral, the Register Office operates a limited service at weekends and on public holidays.

Islamic burials
Contact can be made through the Newham General Hospital and your local funeral company of the Muslim Burial Society.
