Services for Visually Impaired Adults

Transport and travel

There are a number of transport schemes available to the registered disabled or partially sighted.
The Blue Badge Scheme

The Blue Badge Scheme offers parking allowances to disabled people (including people who are registered blind). You can apply via your Local Service Centre.

You are also entitled to a 100% waiver on the London congestion charge. See the Transport for London website for further guidance.

Disabled Persons Railcard

Railcards are available to people who are registered blind or partially sighted and there are discount offers on most rail travel. You can also get discounts when travelling with a companion - no railcard is needed. Call 0191 218 8103 for more details.

Taxicard Service / Dial-a-Ride

Available for people who are unable or who would have serious difficulty using public transport - forms are available from your local service centre or you can telephone 020 8430 5634 for more details. Registered Blind adults have an automatic entitlement.
