Skips and Building Materials

Building Materials on the Street

The council is keen to see residents improve their homes and landlords keep their property in good order.
But bear in mind that it is illegal to store building materials in the street, have a skip on the highway or use the pavement and road as an extension to the building site (eg mixing sand and cement etc) without the council 's permission.

It is not only dangerous and inconvenient to neighbours and pedestrians, but quite often pavements and road surfaces are damaged and have to be repaired at the council 's expense.

If you have a problem with the pavement being used as a building site you can call 020 8430 2000.

If you are about to start work on your property, you will need to plan where you store materials.
