Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Special Education Needs Section - what we do

We help schools support pupils with severe and complex special educational needs.

This includes:

  • Organising funding and statutory assessments for pupils with complex and severe special educational needs
  • Liaising with schools and parents to clarify and resolve issues related to statements or exceptional resources for pupils with complex or severe special educational needs
  • Monitoring pupils for whom the authority has made special educational provision
  • Organising mediation and disagreement resolution services for parents who are in disagreement with the local authority or a school about the special educational provision being offered to their child

We can also provide helpful advice to you in regard to your child's special educational needs, although we recognise that in most instances your child's school will be able to provide you with appropriate advice and your child with support for their special educational needs.

Decisions on assessment, statements and exceptional resourcing are made by a weekly special educational needs panel which consists of officers and school staff.
