This is version 3 of the guidance that was originally produced in April 2000. It has now been amended in light of the new SEN Code of Practice and the SEN Disability Act and takes account of recent changes in procedures and processes with regard to SEN in Newham.
We help schools support pupils with severe and complex special educational needs.
Schools and parents can request that we conduct a statutory assessment of a child's educational needs.

Newham has a policy of inclusive education. This means that we aim to support children with special educational needs in mainstream schools, where all children get the same opportunities to learn and mix socially with each other.
