Eight different sports are available in your
local area free of charge. You just need to bring your
Gold
Card (note that age restrictions apply).

Basketball
The sessions will not only give you an understanding of
the rules of the game, but also help you to develop skills such as
shooting, passing, dribbling, defending and attacking.
Coaching is provided through Leyton Orient Community Sports
Programme (LOCSP), with coaches fully qualified by England
Basketball and Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checked.
If you have trouble recognising the coach at a session, look for
someone with a LOCSP ID badge or wearing clothing with a LOCSP
logo.
A two-hour basketball session is split into two parts:

First 1 hour
10mins - registration, warm-up, fun games such as 'round
the key', and later, drills such as shooting, dribbling, passing,
defending and attacking

Last 50mins - you will be
involved in matches, finishing off with a cool down
session
Our coaches are always keen to develop sporting
promise, so if they think you've got the talent to go far, you can
be referred to the Newham Youngblood's Basketball Club. A
recommendation for trials at WFS Spartans National Programme is
also possible.
Fencing
The sessions will give you the oppportunity to learn the basic
skills and rules of fencing, with instructions from Newham Swords
fencing coaches.
Most sessions are held indoors, so please be sure to wear sports
clothing and trainers. All Fencing equipment will be
provided.

In these sessions you will learn the skills and rules of football.
The sessions are provided through Leyton Orient Sports Programme
coaches who are FA qualified and Criminal Records Bureau (CRB)
checked.

A two-hour football session will include:

and a cool down. Matches will enable the participants to learn the
rules of football. The coaches look to encourage good sporting
behaviour
Most events are held on a hard court surface.
Therefore, you should wear artificial-turf shoes or trainers, and
shin pads. When it's cold and wet outside, suitable clothing such
as a jumper, rain jacket and jogging bottoms should be worn.
Our coaches are always looking for talented individuals. If they
think you have what it takes to train at the next level, you'll be
referred to a Leyton Orient player development centre or the Newham
Sports Academy.
Twilight
Football (17-21 years old)
From these sessions, you will develop basic football skills. These
include kicking, passing, heading, trapping, tackling, jumping and
all the skills required to play successfully at any level.
The late-evening sessions are provided through South East Circular
football coaches. They can be recognised by their standard issue
black-and-red waterproof tracksuit with the SEC logo and Blue
Winter Jackets.
You're advised to wear artificial-turf shoes (or sports trainers)
and shin pads.
Multisports
MultiSports games include:
- tapeball cricket
- handball
- uni-hockey
- volleyball
- tennis
- tag rugby
- athletics
- basketball
- football
Sessions are provided through Leyton
Orient Sport Programme coaches, who are all qualified and CRB
checked.
A two-hour session will include:

1 hour 10 mins - registration, a
warm-up, and games and drills that work on the techniques related
to the chosen sport

50 mins - small-sided
matches of the chosen sport, followed by a cool-down session. These
games will allow you to learn the rules of the sports being played.
Coaches look to encourage good sporting behaviour
Most events are held on a hard court surface, so
please wear suitable footwear such as trainers. If it's cold and
wet outside, wear suitable clothing such as a jumper, rain jacket
and jogging bottoms.
Non-Contact
Boxing There is no sparring involved.
Sessions consist of shadow boxing, partner work and a variety
of hitting apparatus. Skilled coaches provide these sessions.
Most events are held indoors. You are advised to wear trainers
and suitable sports clothing.
Street Dance
The sessions will be provided through East London
Dance.
There will be eight sessions in total across youth centres in
Newham, a programme of access level dance classes for young people
aged 11-16. The classes are street-dance based. However, depending
on the tutor, other styles such as 'locking', popping, contemporay
and jazz will be included.

What not to bring
As we cannot be responsible for any items that are lost or stolen,
please do not bring valuable items such as mobile phones or
jewellery to the sessions.
