The sessions will not only give you an understanding of the rules of the game, but also help you to develop skills such as shooting, passing, dribbling, defending and attacking.

Coaching is provided through Leyton Orient Community Sports Programme (LOCSP), with coaches fully qualified by England Basketball and Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checked.

If you have trouble recognising the coach at a session, look for someone with a LOCSP ID badge or wearing clothing with a LOCSP logo.

A two-hour basketball session is split into two parts:

  • First 1 hour 10mins - registration, warm-up, fun games such as 'round the key', and later, drills such as shooting, dribbling, passing, defending and attacking
  • Last 50mins - you will be involved in matches, finishing off with a cool down session

Our coaches are always keen to develop sporting promise, so if they think you've got the talent to go far, you can be referred to the Newham Youngblood's Basketball Club. A recommendation for trials at WFS Spartans National Programme is also possible.

  • Last 50mins - includes matches and a cool down. Matches will enable the participants to learn the rules of football. The coaches look to encourage good sporting behaviour

Most events are held on a hard court surface. Therefore, you should wear artificial-turf shoes or trainers, and shin pads. When it's cold and wet outside, suitable clothing such as a jumper, rain jacket and jogging bottoms should be worn.
