Town Centre Manager Activities

Examples of the work streams that a Town Centre Manager works across.
  • Partnerships the setting up, facilitation, and running of two Town Centre Forums, as well as the setting up of other appropriate partnerships as necessary.
  • Shared Vision - helping to develop a shared vision and strategies for the town centres, specifically the Forest Gate Town Centre Strategy.
  • Central point of contact - acting as a central point of contract for information and 'advice' from a range of interests, including council departments, local residents and businesses, external companies, students etc.
  • Business Support - providing advice and support to local businesses. This includes providing basic assistance to businesses, signposting of businesses to relevant advisory agencies and/or developing specific projects to meet specific needs.
  • Promotion and marketing - Undertaking a range of marketing and promotional initiatives to encourage increased usage of the town centres from organising events to press liaison to producing town centre guides.
  • Helping to improve service delivery - Working with the borough to help to improve services in the town centre. This includes involvement in Best Value Reviews and other working groups, helping to pilot new initiatives, such as a dedicated Forest Gate Planner.
  • Improving the public realm - taking the lead in coordinating environmental works, as well as working to try to ensure that the highest standards are maintained.
  • Enhancing security - working to help to improve security in the town centre. This includes capital projects such as the installation of new pedestrian lighting schemes and CCTV, to working with partners such as the Metropolitan Police, in helping to address specific problems such as street sex workers, shoplifting etc.
  • Improving Access - working with our partners to improve access to, and from, and around the town centres.
  • Encouraging Investment - actively assisting businesses in seeking premises, advising about premises, showing potential investors around etc.
