Introduction
Following the concerns of residents
living near Albert Walk, Roebourne Way and Camel Road, North
Woolwich E16 over the misuse of motor cycles and mini-motos, Newham
Council is proposing to install access controls in this area. The
council want to consult with local residents and businesses on
proposals.
Background
Despite the council and the police taking action to deter young
people from using motor cycles and mini-motos in an anti-social way
in parts of North Woolwich, misuse of these vehicles is still a
problem.
These motor cycles bring misery to communities who fear being
knocked over by one or have to put up with the noise they
make.
The proposals shown in this consultation document were developed
following a meeting with local councillor Patrick Murphy, the
police and the council.
As well as installing
access control measures, it is proposed that responsible young
people should be allowed to ride their motor cycles at Track KG5
near King George V Dock, Woolwich Manor Way, North Woolwich. This
is part of a joint initiative by Newham Council and the Docklands
Riders Community Interest Company.
Proposals
The proposals for Albert Walk, Roebourne Way and Camel Road are
shown overleaf. These proposals aim to deter motor cycle riders
from riding at speed along the straight, wide footways, whilst
still maintaining access for pedestrians and wheelchair
users.
Albert Walk It is proposed to install a pair
of staggered hoops at six equally spaced locations along Albert
Walk. These hoops will be situated outside numbers 2, 8, 16, 23, 30
and 37 Albert Walk and will occupy the full width of the walk
way.
Pier Parade
It is proposed to install an additional concrete bollard between
numbers 3 and 4 Pier Parade. This will match the three existing
bollards.
Roebourne Way It is proposed to install:
- Pairs of staggered hoops between numbers 12 and 14 Roebourne
Way, between numbers 25 and 26 Roebourne Way and between numbers 30
and 31 Roebourne Way.
- Staggered bollards between numbers 38 and 39 Roebourne Way and
between the rear of number 53 Roebourne Way and the electricity
sub-station.
- Stymie gates (special motor cycle barriers with swinging gate
for disabled access) outside numbers 33 and 50 Roebourne Way. These
measures will occupy the full width of the walkway.
Camel Road
It is proposed to install a Stymie gate between numbers 35 and 37
Camel Road.
