Traffic Controls

Priory Road Traffic Consultation - Proposed 20mph Zone

The council want to consult with local residents and businesses on proposals to introduce traffic calming aimed at reducing accidents, speeding and rat-running.

One such area identified as having an accident and speeding problem is Priory Road and William Morley Close E6. It has been incorporated into this year's road safety programme. The roads will be made safer by implementing traffic calming measures.

The Council is consulting with local residents and businesses on the proposals to introduce a 20mph zone to improve road safety.

This page explains the proposal in outline terms. A more detailed plan is on display at the Green Street Library. Your views are important and can help make these improvements a success, so please take the time to view the display at the community centre and complete the questionnaire.

Background

Priory Road is off Barking Road and lies just east of Green Street. It becomes William Morley Close at its northern end and terminates in a cul-de-sac. Between 2004 & 2007, there have been two (2) recorded personal injury accidents within the area. Both accidents were slight, one (1) involved a motorcycle and one (1) involved speed. Speed surveys were carried out on both roads and the average speed was found to be above 20mph. In order to reduce the average speed within the area, introducing a 20mph speed limit together with traffic calming features would reduce accidents and improve road safety.

Proposed Measures

To reduce the speed of the vehicles in the area, the Council is proposing the following measures, as shown on the reverse side of this leaflet:

  • A 20mph zone with associated signing
  • Red entry treatment consisting of coloured surfacing with a 20mph road marking
  • Speed cushions

PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE WILL NOT BE ANY LOSS OF PARKING SPACE.

Cars will be able to park on speed humps.
