Traffic Controls

Each year, as part of the council's road safety programme, the location of crashes throughout the borough and complaints received are examined. Sites with high levels of crashes resulting in personal injury and rat running problems are identified for remedial action. Speed cameras, speed limits and speed humps are among the techniques we use to promote road safety in Newham.

    Speed & Red Light Cameras

We install speed and red light cameras although it's up to the Metropolitan Police to maintain them and collect fines.

  • Speed Humps & Speed Cushions

Speed humps (once known as Sleeping Policemen) are kerb to kerb vertical deflections placed at intervals along a road.

  • 20mph Zones

Some areas of roads have been restricted to a maximum speed of 20mph rather than 30mph.
