Work Experience and Placements
Looked After
Children
Our Looked After Children scheme offers a
four-week placement during the summer, giving valuable skills and
experience to young people about to leave care.
|
The scheme offers young
people:
- A weekly allowance of £100 (funded by Human
Resources)
- An insight into the opportunities available in
local government and also
- The chance to develop skills which will
assist in moving them towards independent living and securing
employment or a college place.
The scheme provides a variety of work opportunities:
- Administrative or other support to assist in
maintaining the high service standards expected by our
residents.
- The potential for young people who have had limited
life chances to date to develop and improve their future employment
prospects.
- An opportunity to develop staff (who may be new or have
little supervisory experience) in coaching and mentoring
skills.
The scheme has been developed via an effective
partnership between our Human Resources service and our Education
Support Team in Children and Young People's Services.
Details of the placements
Placements start during July for four weeks and we look to provide
good placements in all service areas.
We seek to provide around 30
placements and will therefore require managers to be willing to
offer places.
Line Managers and young people will receive
ongoing support throughout the scheme from experienced staff from
the Education Support Team. This will be in the form of on-site
visits, a mid-placement review meeting and a dedicated helpline
should assistance be required.
What happens next?
We hope that you are interested in providing
placements that will enhance the career prospects of young people
and provide you with valuable administrative support. Both new and
previous placement providers should contact Human Resources to
express an interest in the programme, or to request additional
information.
Young people who are eligible will be contacted
in the Spring, to see if they are
interested. |
