    Newham Fairtrade Network

The Newham Fairtrade Network established in Fairtrade Fortnight 2006 and is working to raise awareness about the issues surrounding Fairtrade and we hope that more local businesses will offer Fairtrade products as an option where possible. In doing this, businesses can be included in our upcoming directory of shops, cafes and businesses in the borough that offer Fairtrade products to its customers and staff.

The group meets regularly, and has meetings of its sub groups, (schools and education, faith, and retail). In addition to the 20 members of the steering group, there is a wider network of people that have signed up to receive updates. The wider network of over 200 members are invited to events, and sent a newsletter (see attached). All those that have requested are invited to meetings and sent minutes. The network organises events through the year.

The group has not yet constituted, all though is planning an inaugural meeting after Fairtrade Fortnight 2008 to adopt a constitution (draft enclosed). We are also looking into setting up as a social enterprise, in order to be able to supply local companies with Fairtrade products as easy access to Fairtrade goods has been highlighted as an issue locally.
