Waste & Recycling

• We are responsible for collecting waste from more than 97,000 households and work with more than 2,400 businesses to ensure that commercial waste is collected properly. We also run a range of recycling programmes, all intended to help recycle and minimise the waste the borough produces.

• Recycling

  You can recycle a long list of items, from glass to junk mail at more than 150 recycling banks in Newham.

• Household waste

  We collect domestic waste from every Newham household once a week. Report a missed collection and we will collect within 24 hours.

• Commercial & Trade Waste

  All businesses must ensure that their waste is collected and disposed of properly or they face a fine of up to £20,000.

• Orange Bag Doorstep Recycling Scheme

  Around 77,000 households in Newham are able to recycle from home through our orange bag kerbside recycling scheme.

• Large or Bulky Household Waste Collection

  We offer a free service to remove large or bulky household waste from in front of your home.

• Hazardous Waste

  The Corporation of London has a service that collects hazardous waste.

• Clinical Waste

  Once referred by your GP or consultant, we will be in contact to arrange the details of the clinical waste collection.

• Recycling sites

  The borough's recycling banks help you to recycle a number of items that cannot be recycled in your orange bag.

• Recycling Text Service

  Residents in the capital can now text 'Recycle' and their full postcode to the number 63131 to get details of their local recycling facilities.
