Newham is where I grew up, and
after 15 years, I have come to the realisation that it has great
potential. It was one of the worst hit places in World War 2 and
has come a long way since then; however, it is still a diamond in
the rough and... Well... it could use a bit of
polishing!
I hope that with my guidance, helping youth offenders and
supporting young carers, amongst many other young people, Newham
will shine brighter than ever before. I hope that, with your help,
I can be the one to do this. All it takes is a vote, and every vote
counts - especially yours!
One thing I wish to address, which I feel hasn't been addressed
enough, is young carers. Being a young carer myself, I know what a
worrying, stressful, but tremendously rewarding job it can be. Many
young carers are too embarrassed to ask for help and their voices
are often unheard. I believe that young carers are one of the
unsung heroes of our society and I hope that with time, we can
provide the help and support that they have been too scared to ask
for.
Something else I feel needs to be addressed is crime. Take the
London Riots for example; it was on the TV, the internet, in the
news. Streets were torn, derelict. Businesses ruined, houses burned
down, and there I stood amidst it all thinking: "How can I
help?"
And then it came to me. These people weren't the sick, twisted
monsters they were made out to be. They were in need of guidance.
If they had been given more positive things to do - basketball,
football, art, music even - they would not have had the time to be
out causing havoc.
Maybe if we all listened and paid attention to their wants and
needs, they would have realised that they could do so much more
with their lives. That they are so much better and high above
that.
We all are. We are Newham and we are one.
