Hafiza
Rahman
My name is Hafiza Rahman and I'm
applying to be Young Mayor of Newham.
In the past, I have felt this role has been filled by satisfactory
people; I want to be above satisfactory. I want to be outstanding.
I feel very passionately about my community, and feel I feel I
could make the biggest change Newham has ever seen.
In school I have been positioned as school governor of Sarah
Bonnell for the past 2 years. In this demanding role I have been
able to exercise authority and work closely with the senior
management of our school.
In my years as a resident of Newham, I have observed that there is
a severe lack of extracurricular youth activities and I feel that I
can be the person to change that. I want to create spaces for
teenagers where they can socialise, study and have fun with people
their own age. This would be a chance for many to get away from
their homes and the hardships that they face every day.
I have been inspired by the Orange Rock corps scheme and feel that
Newham can definitely benefit from it. I would like to arrange for
groups of teenagers aged 13-18 to help tidy up and recreate certain
boroughs by giving tools and rewards at the end; I believe that
they would feel more obliged to help our community with these small
changes. I know that our community will improve not just in
appearance but in morals too.
