By signing a supporting statement you are acknowledging that you will provide personal advice and support to this young person during their campaign to become Young Mayor of Newham - and that you have considered the guidance notes on age and suitability below.

The election for Young Mayor of Newham and Newham's Youth Council is open to any young person between the ages of 11 and 17. Local authority guidance is that to be Young Mayor, young people will normally be at least 14 years of age.

Parents/guardians:

  • Have you talked to your son/daughter/ward about their drive to undertake this role
  • Are they able to commit an average of 2 evenings (or equivalent time) per week to the role of Young Mayor?


Teachers/employers:

  • Have you talked to this young person about balancing their education and/or employment and the duties of Young Mayor?
  • Is this young person at an appropriate stage in their life to fulfil the duties of Young Mayor if they are elected?
