Message from the
Mayor
Almost two years have passed since
the launch of the Young Mayor scheme, and I am so impressed with
the huge amount that has been achieved through the commitment of
both Young Mayors.
The Young Mayor scheme was set up to give our young
people a real voice and influence with real money - and this is
exactly what it has done this year. We are now half way through
this term, and Young Mayor Joshua Adejokun has led the Youth
Council from strength to strength.
With the election of school representatives complete, the Youth
Council is now made up of almost 50 young people from across the
borough, a huge increase from last year. This means that more young
people's voices are being heard, and more decisions are being taken
with the contribution of young people's opinions in mind.
From working to increase community safety, to influencing how the
Olympics and the Olympic Legacy in Newham will look, they have had
a fantastic year so far. Joshua has been an inspiration for the
young people of Newham and he and the Youth Council have an
extremely exciting summer to look forward to.
This summer the Young Mayor and Youth Council will be involved in a
variety of events, including the Mayor's Show in July, so make sure
you come along to meet them and share your experiences to make a
better Newham.
Your voice counts - it's up to you!
Sir Robin Wales
Mayor of Newham
