Kaycee continues
building safer communities
4 March, 2010
Young Mayor Kaycee de Belen has continued her work to build safer
communities in Newham at the recent Safe 'n' Sound event in Royal
Docks.
The theme of the event was community safety, with a
specific focus on responsible dog ownership, in response to
community concerns about dog fouling and the use of 'status dogs'
in the area.
Young Mayor Kaycee and Mayor Sir Robin Wales were joined by local
councillors Pat Murphy, Steve Brayshaw and Tony McAlmont.
She also worked with members of the Royal Docks Safer
Neighbourhood Team whose main priority is to address local crime
concerns.
Following on from a recent consultation with the Youth Council, the
Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership were also at the event to
discuss policing priorities for the year ahead with local
residents.
There was fun to be had as well, with the crowd enjoying displays
from a number of dog display teams, including the Fire Service
Investigation and Rescue Dog Team.
Kaycee said: "Tackling crime and safety is a key priority for me
and community events like Safe 'n' Sound help to address really
local issues with our residents.
"If our canine companions in the Rescue Dog Team can do their bit
for the community then so can we. I think all people need to take
responsibility for the pets they own.
"I really enjoy days like this because by meeting young people and
finding out what they want to see happening in the borough, I can
keep in touch with issues that young people care
about."
