Kaycee kickstarts
success of Newham London Run
7 March, 2010
Newham's Young Mayor Kaycee de Belen helped Olympic 400m champion
Christine Ohuruogu MBE and Mayor of Newham Sir Robin Wales set
around 3,700 runners on their way at the recent Newham London
Run.
The 10km race, one of the first to enter the Olympic
Park, started and finished at Stratford Park before passing close
to the 2012 Games stadium and on to West Ham Park, The Greenway and
Stratford town centre.
Earlier in the day Kaycee sounded the starting horn for the family
Fun Run - a 2.5km event for ages five years and over.
She later got involved in the Sunday Fun Day, taking a turn on the
40 metre indoor running track at the Stratford Mall with
98-year-old marathon runner Sauja Singh from Newham based running
group, Sikhs in the City. Kaycee then joined Strictly Come Dancing
star Brendan Cole for the Just Dance competition at Stratford Old
Town Hall.
Kaycee said: "The Newham London Run and Sunday Fun Day were a great
success. It's a great way to encourage healthy living and regular
exercise. I really enjoyed watching all the runners help make
history by participating in one of the first races to enter the
Olympic Park.
"As Newham's Young Mayor I'm working hard to ensure young people
benefit from the Olympic Legacy, this includes making the venues,
parklands and other facilities accessible to Newham's young people
once the games are over."
