Spotlight on young
Londoners at City Hall
20 May, 2009
Young Mayor Joshua Adejokun recently travelled to London City Hall
to talk directly with key decision-makers from across the capital
about the issues facing Newham's young people.
More than 100 people representing over 50 organisations
and local authorities attended the reception to share their
experiences of governing throughout the city. Joshua discussed
issues such as sexual health, explaining that the Youth Council had
been working closely with NHS Newham to improve sexual health
services for young people. He also had the opportunity to discuss
the work that the Youth Council have done with the British Heart
Foundation, aiming to raise awareness of heart disease throughout
Newham.
Joshua commented: "This event gave me the opportunity to meet with
representatives of organisations from across London and discuss how
young people can be involved in the work that they do."
"We want to make sure that the young people of Newham get the most
from services in the city, from transport and communication to
health and education."
The event was attended by Darren Johnson, Chair of the London
Assembly, as well as representatives from the London Health
Commission and the Olympic Delivery Authority.
Joshua added: "This reception opened my eyes to the huge number of
organisations and authorities involved in the smooth running of
London on a day-to-day basis, and I am very excited about the Youth
Council contributing their ideas to the work that they
do".
