The heart of the community

break

A community centre is just a building without the people who use it. Community centres are the heart of your local area.

They bring together people of all ages and cultures to participate in learning, practice new activities, get expert help and advice, improve their fitness or simply catch up with old friends and make new ones at social events.

Services cater for the very young (and their carers) - with childcare provision and toddler groups, to the young at heart - with luncheon clubs and pensioners clubs and everyone in between with sports, bingo, youth groups and games.

Many centres are run by volunteers and managed by committees of local people elected by members. This ensures that the community centre accurately reflect the needs and interests of local residents.

Most centres have rooms or halls that can be hired for meetings and private events such as weddings and parties.

To find out more, see our list of local community centres, which has location details and a contact number for all centres. Each council-owned centre has its own page that lists facilities, activities, and more. Just click on the centre you require from the list provided
