"Newham Volunteers have played an important part in the development
of triathlon in Newham. Their support at the Tata Kids of Steel has
been critical to the successful hosting of the events over the past
three years. As a result of the popularity of the Tata Kids of
Steel it became apparent that there was as increasing demand for a
Triathlon Club in the borough.
"We worked with Newham to recruit a club committee and train up the
coaching team from the Newham Volunteers.
"Going into the second year of the club (Keep It Simple Triathlon
Club) the new committee has been established and membership is
growing and it is predicted to be at a sustainable level by the end
of the summer of 2011. The club caters for all ages and all
abilities and is focused on being accessible to all sections of the
community. It is a tremendous achievement to go from scratch to a
thriving, self-sufficient club in less than 2 years. This wouldn't
have been possible without the help of the council and Newham
Volunteers. Thank you."
"Newham Athletics Network has linked in with Newham's Volunteers
programme, engaging local people to participate in Athletics
volunteering within the
Newham and Essex Beagles Athletics Club.
"The club put together 12 volunteer job descriptions in partnership
with Newham Volunteers which allowed them to capture the
opportunities available at the club offered by its existing success
in competition and the potential legacy benefits to arise from the
2012 Olympic Games. Since then, more than 20 Newham Volunteers have
signed up to the programme, which continues to grow. The programme
has been developed to deliver three main services for volunteers in
advice and guidance; training and personal development and
volunteering opportunities. Newham Athletics Network & Newham
Volunteers have recruited over 100 volunteers to help out with
Athletics related events and competitions."
