How Newham is
Governed
The council is made up of the
Mayor and 60 locally elected councillors who make decisions on how
to provide local services on behalf of local people.
The Mayor takes decisions as advised by the Cabinet,
Mayoral Advisors and Officers. The Mayor also has a representative
role and can speak on behalf of the council in a wide range of
settings.
Decision Making
Newham's citizens have a right to be involved in local
decision-making. Decisions about local issues are made in meetings
which are open to the public. You can get involved in decision
making by:
- Voting in elections
- Contacting local councillors
- Attending meetings
- Discussing local issues online
Keeping Informed
You can keep informed by reading the agendas and minutes of all
meetings of the council or by attending those meetings in person.
You can also contact

It is also possible to subscribe to updates for all of the
information discussed at public meetings.
Council Finance
Together, councillors and council officers are responsible for
making sure that local citizens get value for the money they pay in
Council Tax.
