Newham Together -
facing the cuts as one
Newham has been more harshly
affected by the coalition government's spending review than almost
any other London borough. During the next four years our funding
from central government will be cut by approximately £75m whilst
richer areas lose far less.
Hear from local residents as they tell us why
they like about living in Newham and the services that we
provide.
Watch
our 'Newham Together' film here.
The Mayor held a series of Newham Together events in January to
explain how council funding has been affected by the national cuts
and to find out what services you value most.
Find out
what issues residents raised with the Mayor here or browse
through our gallery of
photos taken at the Beckton Globe event.
If would like to speak to the Mayor about the services that are
important to you but were unable to attend one of the Newham
Together events, you can still share your views with the Mayor by
emailing
newham.together@newham.gov.uk.
Emails to this address will be monitored and your views considered
but regretfully we are unable to provide an individual reply.
Your priorities
Together we will face these cuts. Together we will keep our focus
on what's in the best interests of Newham residents. Together we
will continue to improve the services we provide and change lives
for the better.
Take this opportunity to tell us what your priorities are for
Newham. What you say shapes our services and priorities. Last year
you told us you wanted:
- less crime and anti-social behaviour
- cleaner streets
- more jobs.
In response, we've:
- increased the number of officers tackling anti-social
behaviour
- taken greater enforcement action against those who fly-tip and
litter
- helped more than 5,000 people into work through Workplace since
2007.
We've also worked hard to support you by freezing Council Tax and
providing free school meals to all primary school children, saving
families £330 a year per child.
By working in partnership with residents, we want to determine if
our current priorities are still important so we can carry on
meeting your needs.
