The Local Area
Agreement
Newham's Local Area Agreement
(LAA) is a document which was agreed between and signed by the
Mayor of Newham and the Secretary of State for Communities and
Local Government in July 2008.
The LAA sets out the following areas for a three-year
period (2008/11):
- The Newham context, aspirations and ambitions, as set out in
the Sustainable Community Strategy;
- A Shared Outcomes Framework for each of the six Community
Strategy themes which are: Investing in Children and Young People,
Better Health and Wellbeing, Making Newham Safer, Building an
Active and Inclusive Community, Shaping Sustainable Communities,
and Business Growth and Access to Jobs;
- A performance management framework establishing 35 performance
targets mapped to the Shared Outcomes Framework drawn from the 185
indicators in the National Indicator Set.
First and foremost the LAA is a Newham Partnership document which
has been developed and agreed with Newham's partners across the
public, private, voluntary and community sectors through Newham
Partnership Board. Secondly, the LAA sets out a set of 35 key
targets for improvement to be achieved through joint working across
partner agencies.
The LAA targets reflect the key priorities for improving the
quality of life in the area of Newham as a whole, and the targets
represent the levels of performance that we aim to achieve.
Newham's LAA is subject to an annual review and refresh by
Government Office for London and the Secretary of State. The first
review of the LAA took place in February of 2009 and targets have
been updated where appropriate.
