Councillors
Councillors or 'members' are our
representatives and they help the Mayor run the council on behalf
of the community.

There are 60 Councillors in all. Newham is divided into 20 areas
called 'Wards', each having three Councillors.
Councillors are elected at Local Elections, which are held every 4
years. For the full results from the last election (May 2006) and

Unlike the officers, councillors are not employees of the council
and they are not paid a salary for their duties. They do, however,
receive an allowance.
Councillors' surgeries
Councillors are elected to serve and represent the
community. They want to be accessible to the people in their wards
so they hold regular advice surgeries where people can comment on
the council and its services and raise queries or problems about
them.
