What we do about air
pollution
The Pollution Unit investigates
and regulates nuisance from bonfires and dark smoke emitted from
commercial premises.
For instance we:
- Regulate the emissions from industrial sources and construction
sites
- Monitor the air quality within the borough
- Public Protection investigates and regulates nuisance from
bonfires and dark smoke emitted from commercial premises
- Liaise with other departments, outside organisations and
members of the public to provide air quality data, information and
technical support
- Conduct roadside vehicle emissions testing.
- Arrange regular voluntary vehicle emission testing, where
drivers can have their engines tested for free
We are also currently developing a strategy and action plan for
Newham to manage the air quality within the borough, and to meet
government limits on air pollution.
